Arrival to Lisbon

Firstly I'd like to thank my Dad for waking up at 3:15 to give me a ride to Heathrow- absolute hero. I had an uneventful and slightly sleepy flight to Lisbon. My surfboard arrived in one piece when I got there- wahoo.

Got hold of the car eventually. My 6 Euro a day car hire seems to mean a bus down to Europcar depot on the outskirts of the airport- rather than in the airport as per last time. The people at the car hore were quite nice. I would say that the Fiat Punto is quite s*** though, especially compared to the VW I had before.

After grabbing the car I drove towards Carcavelos- I knew there were waves here as I was able to check the wifi in the airport. A further check of Lagide dismissed the Peniche option as although offshore, with the big NW swell the paddle out looked brutal. Although it looked hollow it was closing a fair bit. I decided to head to check the point- good decision. The point looked sweet so I suited and waxed up.

The locals were leaping off the rocks. I debated this. Then I met a Brazilian guy Eric and we both decided to jump. I leapt off first and timed it right as a big set came in just after. A paddle round to the line up. Missed a few waves at first. Caught one, it was nice but closed out. Caught a second which was awesome- had me stoked all day, nice air drop in and a clean kick out. It got more crowded and with the tide began to crap out. I paddled in cutting my foot non severly on the way in (lots of rocks).

Went to a locals place with the Brazilian and had pork. Also found out I had a new job- jokes. We headed afterwards to Carcavelos for some beach break. It was lees good and quite closey although got a few waves. After saying goodbye to Eric until tomo, I headed back.

Disater- one wrong turn cost me 2 hours. Got sent off track then stuck in the Lisbon rush hour. Not recommended. Eventually found the hostel and got 2 nights even though I did not book (lucky!). Have had a few beers and a massive dish of pasta. Need to sleep tonight- been a tiring few days.
