I hit the road this morning waking up quite early. After breakfast I headed to Ribeira which was a bit like yesterday only smaller. I rsthad a surf which was okay, but as discussed yesterday nothing mesmorising like my last visit. Fed up with wind affected reefs I had made the call yday to head to Peniche. So after getting out I began the journey up the coastal road which was a first.
I stopped breifly at Coxos up the road, but even more than other Ericeira reefs it doesn't like wind, not that I would surf it anyway because when its on it is nuts. The first major town I stopped at had a supermarket. Was desperate for water so got a 5L bottle for the remainder of the trip. Also my first visit to the petrol station. I could smell one of these barbecue chicken places- which was adjacent to the supermarket. It was more of a takeaway for locals so eating was raw hands on, caveman experience. Had half a chicken and chips which at 4 Euros was a steal.
On route I had always been keen to check this Santa Cruz town, which although I knew would be blown out today has hosssegor style beach breaks. The place was as I expected- unremarkable resort town, but a bit bigger.
Headed on my roadtrip through random places checking a few beaches on the way. When I got to Peniche I checked Supertubes which was nice and clean. The hostel I stayed in last time was closed, so spoke to the tourist office and found another before heading back to Supertubes.
Surfed here- didn't catch loads of waves because it was crowded and is also a very fast wave. But nice to have somewhere offshore and certainly a quality wave. Now back at the hostel. Had a walk around town- quirky place but very quiet atm.
