I did not sleep that amazingly despite it being quiet and having my own room. In fact I don't feel 100%- the causes are no sleep Saturday night, a few hours Sunday and Monday- continuous surfing and working out. I woke up at 6 to check the surf- winds are lighter in the mornings. It was so misty I could see nothing from the beach, plus I was tires so went back to sleep. Grabbed breakfast at 9- and it never stopped raining The whole garden is underwater and the kitchen. In fact althugh I have a step I am worried about the room flooding. I have put a towel down and moved everything on to beds and shelves. I was stuck in my room on the internet.
The rain is as intense as a storm, but has the duration of drizzle. Unfortunately there was not much to do this morning so went on the internet, sorted out some urgent stuff for my new job, edited Sao Paulo photos and also did some research on where I am moving next.
Had a walk around town up to the Church on the rock which is the most famous thing here apary from surfing. Had a wander but it seemed pretty dead- although the rain stopped for a bit. I have firmed up my plans for tommorrow- I am moving to the otherside of Rio towards Prainha which I have wanted to check. It was always to complicated when I was staying n central and Zona Sul so now I have bitten the bullet and booked somewhere around there.
Popped out on the bike and found a Brandesco atm near the bus station so I could finally get some cash out here. Afterwards went for a surf at the smaller end of Itauna. There were a couple of guys out, it was about 2ft and a bit bouncy, but surfable. Quite refreshing to surf something small given that my arms are dead. Am packing tonight to resume my journey tomorrow. Seems like a good day to travel tomorrow as wind will blow out the surf. Friday and Saturday look like the last surfable days- the rest of the trip will be finalising touristy stuff. I had hoped to go to Buzios but the forecasted winds look dodgy and most importantly I am not sure how to get there from here, I would rather avoid multiple local busses in the rain and instead head back towards Rio. Saquerema has been a short visit, but unless there is good surf there is little going on here. Also half of it is underwater, although I am informed so is Rio. Stale water in the tropics does not smell too nice. Apparently all of December's normal rainfall has fallen in 24 hours.
I got some dinner between rain at a proper local's place- it was the only thing open. Again my staple rice, beans and chicken with beer for 14 reals. Portion was not quite as huge as I hoped but not bad value. Have headed back pre dark- I don't really want to wander around Brazilian streets at night even if Saquarema is not Rio. Packing for tomorrow.
