Last day in Floripa

Previous night had headed off for a night out with the crazy French guy and some others. We started in the town. Afterwards I drove to the main Florianapolis city, which I had not been to before to check El Divino. The entry was $60R but there was not much going on inside so we did not pay- cruised around the city a bit. This was my only visit to the city as my trip to Floripa was quite short. With the bridge and the view across on the way back it was quite scenic.

Woke up a bit late in the morning about 9:30 got back at 3. Decided to go for a surf after breakfast. Winds had north in them for the first time so it was time to try the famous Joaquina. Paddled out in front of the rock- it was a brutal paddle out and had to wait around a bit and read the line up before catching my first wave. As ever it was a bit competitive with Brazilian surfers. Got one nice wave in particular I was stoked with.

Later got some bubble wrap for my board which at $4.65R was quite cheap. Then went for lunch in town with the French guy at a $10R which was pretty good for the price. After some packing and a snooze headed back to Joaquina. On the way I picked up a crazy looking towel as I am a towel short (see below).

I started the arduous paddle out again when a huge and intense thunderstorm came. It started hailing really hard with big hailstones that hurt- so like other surfers got out (before making it out to the back) and took some shelter. It passed quickly so was able to get back in, this time complete the paddle out despite my burning arms. Got a few nice waves, best of the trip- one in particular.

I had spoken to this Belgan girl on the way to the beach who had invitied me to go a barbecue she was having. The French guy when I mentioned it was really keen. In the end we got there a bit late, so cruised down to Joaquina to watch the sunset.

I wrapped my board for the flight with the help of the girl at reception- so fingers crossed for the flight. Put in bubble wrap, towels, hat, clothes and wetsuit. Later that night we went out to the only place on Mondays. To be honest it was pretty poor- I left around 1 as wanted to get some sleep pre the flight to Rio.
