I woke up at 4:45 this morning to get the bus to Saquerema. The driver taking me from the hostel to the bus station was already there at reception. So I wnet to the bus station. It suddenly dawned on me that maybe going to the bus station in the dark was a bad idea. Actually it was fine- it is quite secure and better than any bus station in England. Staff were quite helpful. Got the bus fairly easily. Was tired because bloody Australian girls in the hostel made a racket in the night.
Rio from the causeway
Got to Saquerema just after 8- bus driver was an idiot I am sure he got lost on the way. People here were quite helpful, one lady pointed me in the direction and another guy Jose walked me to the hostel. When I arrived the guy spoke virtually no English. Somehow we communicated and I checked in.
Headed to Itauna for a surf. Saw a right with some guys on it- paddle out caught one short waves thy arms then got caught inside. The story of my day is not just how crap at surfing I am but also how smashed my arms are after yesterday's workout (excuses). Got some nice waves in the middle away from the point- quite steep with nice drops. Tried again at the point but got caught in the rip and smashed. Was not going to well.
Headed to a a price fixed restaurant for lunch as so hungry. Got a huge quanitity of meat (chicken and beef) as well as rice all for 15 reals with a drink. Headed to see if I could find a phtographer for some photos but no luck.
Ended up sleeping and then grabbing the bike to ride back to the bus station, which is 15 mins on foot. Still trying to work out how to get to Buzios from here, would be illogical to got back through Rio. Saquerema is a cool town with good infrastrucutre- nice roads- I wouldn't normally cycle in Brazil but here seems okay. Also very quiet, no one around- I don' think many foreigners come here.
Went for an evening surf- again not really a succes. Caught one wave at the point but the currents ate me for breakfast. Tried the middle of the beach but could not even get outback. SHame I was so tired today because the winds are problematic tomorrow.
