Rio beach days and Maracana

Another update of a couple days in one post. The night before my parents left we had dinner in a Minhas Geras restaurant which was great because of the quantity of beer and meat. Despite being a Friday night I was knackered so went to bed early.

Saturday morning was the last morning in the hotel. We had a leisurely breakfast and swim- followed by packing. I left my parents and had a wander around Santa Teresa before heading down to my new quarters in Leblon.

The taxi driver was a dick and charged me for my luggage. I arrived a the hostel and went for a surf at Arproador. It is a bloody long walk the length of Ipanema beach. The surf was big with lots of close outs. On fact the session was pretty terrible- strong rips, crowds and close outs. Also wish I had put my wettie on again. Having said that there were some good guys who were making the most of the conditions. After the long walk back I signed myself upp for the football match. We went in a minibus to the Maracan forFlamengo vs Cruzeiro- their last league match of the season.

Stadium is really nice, definitely worthy of hosting the World Cup final next year. The match was dramatic with a double sending off, a great goal and some heroic goalkeeping. Atmosphere was Jovial- stadium was just over half full. After the match grabbed some beer and went to a meat restaurant opposite with some English guys- was really god value as Maracana hot dogs don't fill you up.

Later went out and barely got any sleep. So today was a bit of a write off. Had breakfast at a local place with the Columbian girl. Headed for a surf, it was smaller but still crap. Surfing in Ipanema really sucks- I need to start going back out of town again. Later had a walk along Ipanema in the sub and a bit of a workout. There is a funk party tonight, but I just don;t have the energy to go. Need to rest up and surf. Although the swell is dropping so are the winds which have been problematic for the last few days. Fingers crossed for early tomo morning.
